Clinton Democratic Town Committee

Michael Smith – Board of Finance

Another fine Democrat ready to serve the town of Clinton. Meet Michael Smith, candidate for Board of Finance.

While I am new to politics, I am not new to community service in my hometown of Clinton.

I have been involved with Clinton Lions Club for more than five years. We try and do as much as we can for town and its residents. I really enjoy our yearly pancake breakfast. We always have a great turnout and it is great to see Families Helping Families benefit from it.

In addition to the Lion’s club, I have volunteered with other organizations in our community. When my kids were younger, I was Assistant Den leader in Cub Scouts and eventually Committee Chairman for their pack. I have also coached them for years in park and recreation basketball and in the Harry Swaun Little League.

Speaking with Jane Scully Welch, she told me the Democrats were looking for candidates to run in November. After she explained all of the different boards and commissions, I thought the Board of Finance would be the best fit.

I believe my business career has prepared me well for serving on the Board of Finance. Working in the newspaper industry for the past 12 years, I am responsible for creating and managing a revenue and expense budget. I have had to adapt how we run our business, based on climate changes in the industry, to remain viable. These same financial skills I have learned at my job, I believe, would be beneficial to the town.

My wife Kara and I have been married nearly 18 years and have two children, a freshman and sophomore at Morgan High School. I love living near the water. I grew up in the city so I really love the air and breeze on the shoreline.
