Michael Rossi – Planning and Zoning

Meet Michael Rossi, running for another term on Planning & Zoning! I do not come from a politically active household. I am involved in Clinton town government because I feel Clinton is a wonderful place and I want to participate in supporting it. I joined the Democrats because of their support for working families and underserved populations. I want to see Clinton get a Town Manager/Planner. In terms of what I would do on Planning and Zoning, I would like to see a more cooperative body on the Commission and a concerted effort to bring the regulations into line with the Town Plan of Conservation and Development, while also making them drop dead easy for the average person to follow.…

Erica Gelven – Board of Education

MEET ERICA GELVEN, WHO IS SEEKING REELECTION TO THE CLINTON BOARD OF EDUCATION…. I firmly believe that our elected officials are only effective if they “go to where the people are, and go from there.” Our leaders cannot lead effectively if we don’t listen to people’s concerns, fears, ideas and dreams. To that end, I stand for QUALITY EDUCATION FOR ALL, achieved through sound practices and fiscal responsibility. “Quality education” does not necessarily equal college, but it must equal students acquiring the tools and skills to achieve their goals, whether they involve a trade, skill, higher education and/or military service. Currently, I am a proud and dedicated member of the Clinton Board of Education, to which I seek reelection. In…

Jason Adler – Board of Education

Meet Jason Adler, extraordinarily qualified candidate for the Board of Education! I believe we are at a crucial time for education in Connecticut. With state funding in doubt our school systems will have to be extremely diligent and creative to maintain our children’s educational opportunities. There also has to be sensitivity to the difficult fiscal environment faced by some in our community. I have been working in the field of education since graduating Swarthmore College in 1996. I first served as Assistant Director of Admission at Connecticut College in New London. This was followed by graduate school and a new career as a school counselor. I have served in that capacity in two Connecticut school systems: East Lyme and Waterford.…

Dara Onofrio – Board of Finance

Meet another capable candidate for Board of Finance, Dara Onofrio! My inspiration and motivation to get involved in politics is summed by two quotes on my desk. Gandhi said “You must be the change you wish to see for the World.” And President Barack Obama said “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” My father was Superintendent of Schools in West Haven and instilled in me that education was a necessity to succeed in life. One of six siblings, I was lucky enough to have parents teach me the importance of practicing kindness and compassion. They also…

Michael Smith – Board of Finance

Another fine Democrat ready to serve the town of Clinton. Meet Michael Smith, candidate for Board of Finance. While I am new to politics, I am not new to community service in my hometown of Clinton. I have been involved with Clinton Lions Club for more than five years. We try and do as much as we can for town and its residents. I really enjoy our yearly pancake breakfast. We always have a great turnout and it is great to see Families Helping Families benefit from it. In addition to the Lion’s club, I have volunteered with other organizations in our community. When my kids were younger, I was Assistant Den leader in Cub Scouts and eventually Committee Chairman…

Tim Guerra – Selectman

MEET TIM GUERRA, CANDIDATE FOR BOARD OF SELECTMEN! Back in the early 1980s I rented a home in Clinton after I was promoted to the Echlin (auto parts) home office in Branford. Later, my wife, Morna, and I moved to Texas upon another promotion and lived there for 3 years. Due to yet another promotion, we returned to the Connecticut area for the same company. Because of my initial liking to Clinton, we eventually had a home built where we still live today. Our three boys graduated from Morgan and I became active in their lives by coaching all three in baseball and being part of Park and Recreation. When they moved into high school, I became President of the…
