Valenti’s Letter for Goupil-Guerra-Scherban, DTC Endorsed Candidates for Board of Selectmen

Strong, Talented Leadership – By Trudy Valenti – Published August 16, 2017 I don’t usually write these kinds of letters, but Clinton is my hometown. I am 10th generation. My parents grew up here, I went to school here and my children went to school here, and I and my sons family still live here. I’m on the board of our family organization, The Kelsey Kindred. I am a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; I belong to the Episcopal Church. I am invested here and I care too much to not say anything. We know hard times are not coming to Clinton, they are here. My old employer, Ponds, used to help support the town through taxes and donations. It is…

Phelps’ Letter for Goupil-Guerra-Scherban, DTC Endorsed Candidates for Board of Selectmen

Passion for Good Government – By Mary Jo Phelps – Published August 16, 2017 It is a pleasure to express my support for Christine Goupil for Clinton’s first selectman as well as Tim Guerra and Jack Scherban for Board of Selectmen. These candidates were endorsed by the Democratic Town Committee because of their passion for good government and their commitment to working hard for the citizens of Clinton. Christine Goupil led the implementation of Clinton’s Plan of Conservation and Development, a five-year effort that focused on getting input from a wide range of sources: town boards and commissions, business owners, and residents. She has a vision for our town that encourages economic development without sacrificing the small-town character that is crucial to…

Olsen’s Letter for Goupil-Guerra-Scherban, DTC Endorsed Candidates for Board of Selectmen

Values and Aspirations – By John Olsen – Published August 16, 2017 On Sept. 12, Clinton Democrats will vote in a primary, selecting the strongest team to serve our town. The Clinton Democratic Town Committee has endorsed a fantastic slate of candidates, volunteers who represent the values and aspirations of our wonderful town. Christine Goupil, Tim Guerra, and Jack Scherban have served this town on various boards and commissions and are ready to step up and run for first selectman and Board of Selectmen. Our responsibility as a town committee is to endorse a slate that represents us and the broader community. Incumbent opponents had their chance. They have not won the majority of votes in town elections since 2011. It is…

Knight’s Letter for Goupil-Guerra-Scherban, DTC Endorsed Candidates for Board of Selectmen

Integrity, Dedication, and Talent – By Bethany Knight – Published August 16, 2017 Yes, we are all pretty cynical about politics, and yet, living in a democracy, we must have good leadership to keep the ball rolling. This fall in Clinton, it is so wonderful to have an incredible slate of candidates, endorsed by the town Democratic committee, who represent such integrity, dedication, and talent. I feel excited, knowing I will be able to vote Sept. 12 in the primary for the three-member team of Christine Goupil for First Selectman and Tim Guerra and Jack Scherban for the Board of Selectmen. The offices down the ticket have attracted truly able and honest fellow citizens. In this age of cynicism and nastiness, when…

Henderson’s Letter for John Olsen, DTC Endorsed Candidate for Board of Finance

A Keen Understanding – By Christopher R. Henderson – Published August 16, 2017 As a young voter in Clinton, casting my vote in the municipal election, I look for someone with a forward-thinking vision for the town, who truly cares about its residents, and who understands how to grow our local economy. That candidate for the Board of Finance is John Olsen. I encourage all Clinton Democrats to vote at the primary Sept. 12 for John and the two other Democratic Town Committee-endorsed Democrats running for the Board of Finance, Dara Onofrio and Mike Smith. When I moved to Clinton two years ago with my wife-to be, we looked for ways to get involved and were directed to John Olsen. He was…

Dara Onofrio – Board of Finance

Meet another capable candidate for Board of Finance, Dara Onofrio! My inspiration and motivation to get involved in politics is summed by two quotes on my desk. Gandhi said “You must be the change you wish to see for the World.” And President Barack Obama said “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” My father was Superintendent of Schools in West Haven and instilled in me that education was a necessity to succeed in life. One of six siblings, I was lucky enough to have parents teach me the importance of practicing kindness and compassion. They also…

Michael Smith – Board of Finance

Another fine Democrat ready to serve the town of Clinton. Meet Michael Smith, candidate for Board of Finance. While I am new to politics, I am not new to community service in my hometown of Clinton. I have been involved with Clinton Lions Club for more than five years. We try and do as much as we can for town and its residents. I really enjoy our yearly pancake breakfast. We always have a great turnout and it is great to see Families Helping Families benefit from it. In addition to the Lion’s club, I have volunteered with other organizations in our community. When my kids were younger, I was Assistant Den leader in Cub Scouts and eventually Committee Chairman…

Tim Guerra – Selectman

MEET TIM GUERRA, CANDIDATE FOR BOARD OF SELECTMEN! Back in the early 1980s I rented a home in Clinton after I was promoted to the Echlin (auto parts) home office in Branford. Later, my wife, Morna, and I moved to Texas upon another promotion and lived there for 3 years. Due to yet another promotion, we returned to the Connecticut area for the same company. Because of my initial liking to Clinton, we eventually had a home built where we still live today. Our three boys graduated from Morgan and I became active in their lives by coaching all three in baseball and being part of Park and Recreation. When they moved into high school, I became President of the…

Jack Scherban – Selectman

MEET ANOTHER SENSATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN…Jack Scherban! I have lived in Clinton for more than 40 years, and I have always been involved in local service. When my three children were growing up, I taught CCD at St. Mary’s, coached Little League, and American Legion Baseball. I attended every sporting event and concert, and I watched my children grow and thrive in the Clinton Public Schools. I am proud of those three children, who are now successful, happy adults. I am proud of my nine grandchildren, three of whom are now at Joel, Pierson, and Eliot schools. I am proud of 48 years of marriage to my wife, a retired Clinton teacher. I am proud to…
